Munroe Schools

Lexington Music School, Lexington School of Ballet, and the Dance Inn were among the first tenants when artists started using the building in 1984. ArtSpan was created by these schools as an additional community service. Lexington Players started with Munroe in 1995 as the town's only theater group. The Childrens' Arts Corner also started in the mid-1990s.

The schools contribute widely to the cultural environment of the Town of Lexington, the region, and internationally. For more information about their relationship with Munroe Center for the Arts, see: Tenants.

Dance Inn

“Through the ages and in every culture, dance brings people together”--Thelma Goldberg

Founded by Thelma Larkin Goldberg in 1993, The Dance Inn has a mission of sharing the joy of dance. It is a multidisciplinary studio offering weekly dance programming for preschoolers through adults, beginners through professionals, as well as weekend master workshiops and festivals. Dance forms offered include: hip hop, jazz, tap, and ballet technique, as well as Pilates, conditioning classes, and dance technique.

Goldberg co-founded The Legacy Dance Company in 1989 so that young dancers could pursue serious dance study and have the opportunity and experience of performing.

Goldberg founded the non-profit group Dance Inn Productions in 1987 to extend the dance experience beyond the classroom into a broader community to perpetuate the artistry and traditions of dance through programming that educates, entertains, and inspires.

The Lexington Players

"Dedicated to producing outstanding community theater by the community, for the community"--Sal Jones

The Lexington Players was founded in 1995 as the town's only theater group. Over the years, it has expanded the number of our productions from two to four, including our summer show for children. It also provides periodic workshops including our recent session for New Directors. After a three month workshop, members plan, audition, cast, and direct one act plays for our season. This year, The Lexington Players has expanded its reach into the community by creating the Youth Stage for Young Actors.

The Lexington Players believe that people have a responsibility to enhance the quality of life in their community. Theater arts encourage taking this responsibility, and provide skills and perspectives for doing so.

Chung Do Tae Kwon Do

Tae Kwon Do is the most widely practiced martial art in the world today. It traces its ancestry to the Korean martial art called Taekyon that was developed over 1000 years ago. Taekyon encompassed a barehanded and barefoot fighting style with great emphasis on kicking technique. The studio directly descends from the original Chung Do Kwan school in Seoul, Korea through its grandteacher, Master Duk Kyung Choi.
