Are YOU "wish cycling"??
This project is supported in part by the Lexington Council for the Arts, a local agency which is supported by the Mass Cultural Council, a state agency.

LexZeroWaste has teamed up with the Munroe Center for the Arts to create awareness about our need to reduce our waste consumption for a healthier planet. This year our sculpture reminds us that not everything we *think* is recyclable actually is.
This year's sculpture that will be in the Patriots' Day Parade is made from non-recyclable materials and carries the theme of "wishcycling". Wishcycling is a term coined for the practice of putting something in a recycling bin with the hope of it being recycled. Unfortunately, our small acts of wishcycling are complicating the sorting process and actually contaminating the recycling system. We may think we’re doing a good job with our recycling habits, but every year staggering amounts of recyclable waste are exported by wealthy countries to the developing world, in part because of contamination due to wishcycling. Did you know that you cannot recycle black plastic, or containers like milk cartons, frozen food boxes, and even most hot drink cups? This is because what looks like a wax coating is actually a layer of plastic. And did you know that water bottles made from clear plastic typically are only recycled 29% of the time? ♻️ Visit LexZeroWaste to learn more! ♽ RecycleSmart - see what you can and can't recycle in MA |
Watch the Parade with us!
The arts center has THE BEST LAWN to watch the parade! And if the weather is lousy? Just come inside and watch through the gallery or stairwell windows.
Massachusetts Avenue closes to all traffic at 12 noon! If you need to get in or out of the building between 12-3pm, park on a side street and walk here. You can find detailed road closure information on the Town website. The parade starts at 2:00. Bring a chair or blanket, and entertain yourself or your little one with some arts and crafts while you wait. April Vacation Week students will also take a break to watch the parade. BONUS: The Dance Inn always leads the parade, and makes a special stop in Lexington Center AND outside of the arts center here to perform! Also on the Town website is the full schedule of events for Patriots' Day. |
