ABOUT OUR PROGRAM
Explore expression and imagination in an interdisciplinary arts community. Weekly themes guide art projects and programming that includes ceramics, mixed media, and theater arts. Develop art making skills and connect with peers and teaching artists as we foster a safe, supportive, and creative community.
WEEKLY THEMES
Week 1: June 22-26 // Myths and Legends
Origin stories and otherworldly tales of triumphs and challenges will guide our art making through a variety of mediums and dramatic tellings. Create heroes on quests, gods of the underworld and supernatural creatures on our journey through Myths and Legends.
Week 2: June 29 - July 2 // In Our Backyard
Explore the seasons, plants, and creatures in our environment through art with natural materials! Draw inspiration from the Earth while we explore color and texture with clay, sand, rocks, shells, wood, moss, and flowers. Learn about conserving nature and wildlife as we create our own landscapes, characters, and reflections of the habitat around us.
Week 3: July 6-10 // Ancient Art & Archaeology
Dig in and learn about art of the ancient world! Cave paintings, clay statues, porcelain vessels, golden jewelry, hieroglyphics and drawings on papyrus will serve as inspiration for our own art adventures and discoveries.
Week 4: July 13-17 // STEAM: The Science of Art and the Art of Science
Combine art with science, technology, engineering, and math! Learn from creative pioneers of the past as we invent gadgets, experiment with colors, explore geometry in printmaking and bring innovation to life.
Week 5: July 20-24 // Past, Present, and Future Artists
Learn from makers long ago and in our current world as we create the next generation of art! Beaded masks, marble busts, classical portraits, and paintings of lines, cubes, and dots represent a handful of art history influences. What will you create with clay, paint, and or printmaking?
Week 6: July 27-31 // Magic Makers
Use your imagination as we combine colors, mix potions and draw maps of enchanting lands! Fairies, elves, wizards, witches, and magical creatures are welcome!
Week 7: August 3-7 // Activist Art
Explore art making for social change as an individual and community. Embody your inner activist and share your voice through the power of visual arts and drama. Create meaningful art and messages as we collaborate and support each other in this week of advocacy.
Week 8: August 10-14 // Pen to Page
Become your own author and illustrator! Discover a variety of storytelling from Pigeon’s silly antics and Eric Carle’s vivid collages to the exciting graphic novels of Dog Man and Avatar. Sketch stories, create characters, make pop-up worlds and dioramas as we transform camp into our own Munroe Library.
Week 9: August 17-21 // Festival
Celebrate summer as we make our own fun games and tournaments, create amusing and dramatic characters, paint, sculpt, and dance the last days of August away. Culminates in an artistic sharing and event for all on Friday!
