Watercolor: Exploring Nature Inspired Themes Adults 8 Tuesdays 10:00am - 12:00pm Oct 20 - Dec 15 (no class 11/3) Instructor - Borianna Kantcheva $256 Class meets in a small group on site. Please email Carmela with any questions This class is for everyone who would like to experience watercolors. It will offer a number of projects that use this medium in an experimental and very enjoyable way from learning to use stencils, layers, salt and a variety of texture creating materials. In addition to exploring the medium of watercolor, students will find inspiration in the natural world. Often what one finds in their backyard or while walking on the beach can be all the inspiration needed for a new project. Rocks, branches, fallen leaves and birds are all fair game. And even though we will find inspiration in nature students can choose to work in a more abstract and lyrical way. ![]() Plein Air at Munroe with Nancy Hart -

Adults 8 Wednesdays 10:30am - 1:30pm Oct 21 - Dec 16 (no class 11/11) Instructor: Brendan Lehman $384 Expressive Painting Lessons are recommended for those who are looking for a highly expressive, experimental approach to painting using unconventional tools and techniques. Although expressive painting is the focus, the class will also feature how to combine non-traditional with traditional techniques. In this class the student is encouraged to work from their imagination as well as their choice of reference image if desired. With intuitive painting class, the focus is largely placed on encouraging the individual student to take risks and experiment on their own, after given a demonstration, using their instincts, awareness, conscious and unconscious decision making to create dynamic artwork that pushes boundaries. We also collectively come together as a class to critique and discuss the use of mood, experimentation, color, emotion, aesthetic and other aspects of each other's work. It’s specifically through these lessons, that my goal is to open your mind to the unlimited creative potential you have, as well as the benefits you can experience through the self-explorative process of making art. This class will meet in the field behind the Munroe Center until weather no longer permits. At that time, class will be moved inside where students will be socially distanced. ![]() Painting From Reference

Painting from Reference Class will consist of easy to follow but highly informative instructions on how to create convincing and accurate images from reference. Students will follow along as seemingly difficult reference images are broken down into easy to follow, step by step instructions, breaking down the image along the way to create an accurate, aesthetically pleasing painted depiction of the image. A variety of different images will be presented throughout the course of lessons including, portrait, landscape, still life, and/or the students collective choice on what they want to paint next. Instructions begin with setting the groundwork for an accurate painting, where students learn how to find accurate proportions, shapes, and angles of the reference image. Next students are shown how to correctly depict values (light and shadow) as shown on the reference picture as well as hard and soft edges, to create a convincing, “sculptural”, and aesthetic painting.
