Hand-building and Wheel
3:30pm – 5:00pm (Grades 4-6; 3rd graders who have previously taken a clay class are welcome to join)

Carmela Goguen Fratus
Explore 3D design in clay through use of the pottery wheel as well as hand-building techniques. This class practices cooperation, studio responsibilities, group critique and individual experimentation in a relaxing, fun environment. Class may include other media for the final project.
Drawing in Pen and Ink 4:30pm – 6:00pm (Grades 5-7)

Anastasia Semash This course is designed for intermediate students who are familiar with basic drawing and shading techniques. Students will be introduced to main techniques of line drawing, hatching, and cross-hatching using different kinds of pens. We’ll create shades and washes with liquid India ink, and also learn how to render various textures such as wood, foliage, animal fur and more. These skills will be practiced when drawing trees, still life, architecture and animals. Students will be led to create a range of works from realism to abstraction.

Students will be introduced to an array of drawing techniques such as hatching and shading, as well as the primary elements of art such as shapes, forms, lines, and textures. With common drawing materials (pencils, charcoal, markers, and oil pastels), students will shift between themes such as animals, houses, people, and natural elements in their environment.

This class provides an in-depth look at the application and possibilities of silkscreen printing, both on textiles and paper. Students will explore their own artistic interests while learning about the process. The process lends itself to fine art work as well as more commercial applications such as printing on t-shirts and other textiles. No prior experience necessary.
