The Counselor-in-Training (CIT) program serves to bridge 13 and 14 year olds from campers to Counselors at Munroe Center for the Arts. CIT’s will gain valuable experience and training in leadership, communication, team building, and career skill development. While immersed in the arts, and engaged with younger students, CIT’s serve as positive role models, learn classroom management techniques, and are exposed to a variety of fun, interactive activities. This year a main tenet of the CIT program will be awareness, acceptance and inclusion with curriculum and activities designed to foster understanding and mindfulness.
The 5 day CIT program will involve two sections, morning activities will include an interactive, group curriculum structured designed especially for teens. CITs will have their first morning exploring DEIB concepts (diversity/equity/inclusion/belonging), and subsequent mornings working with a mural artist and a group leader to create a mural for outdoor public display. After lunch, the focus has CITs integrated into the camp day, and working with counselors to observe and help put DEIB concepts into practice.
By the end of the week, CIT’s will feel inspired by their own group art accomplishment and confident in the career building and leadership skills they have developed and will feel prepared to become Camp Volunteers upon turning 15, and Camp Counselors at age 16.
Closed.
