The Munroe Center for the Arts is dedicated to providing high quality arts programming for the entire community and beyond. The Munroe Center for the Arts offers visual, ceramic, and performing arts classes for all ages, split into multiple semesters year-round. These classes often include ceramics, painting, drawing, printmaking, acting, and more. Week-long or shorter semester classes may be offered at certain times of the year, for both youth/teens and adults. One-day events or art-making workshops are also held seasonally.

MCA Program Policies and Procedures

We value the health and safety of all our artists, staff, teachers, students, and visitors. We thank you for being here, and ask for your assistance in staying vigilant and thoughtful in helping one another to transition out from pandemic conditions.
[Updated December 2022]

COVID-19 VACCINATIONS

Staff, teachers, and volunteers at the MCA are vaccinated against COVID-19; any new staff, teachers and volunteers who will be in the building may be required to show proof of full vaccination, or exemption (health, religious, etc).
While we no longer require proof of vaccination from students, we encourage everyone to keep their vaccinations up to date in order to reduce illness in our community.

MASKS
While we do not currently require mask use within the building, we remind all those who enter the building that, beyond being vaccinated, the safest way to protect yourself against COVID-19 is to wear a mask.
We request anyone in the building to wear a mask if they have recently been in close contact with someone COVID-19 positive.

The main office (Room #214) maintains a supply of face masks for anyone who would like one, as well as use of hand sanitizer.

Please read more detail on our COVID-19 Policy regarding symptoms & exposure.

Photograph/Video Policy [Updated Nov. 2023]

The Munroe Center for the Arts (MCA) may take photographs, videos, and/or audio recordings while MCA programming occurs, for records and/or promotional purposes. Images/recordings from classes, camps, workshops, events, etc. help us keep our community informed on the various activities and offerings we work to provide year-round.

Registering for any of our programs/events implies consent from the participant (or their parent/guardian). Any participants (or their parent/guardian) who wishes to opt out from this must send a request in writing. More details on opting out and the full policy can be reviewed here.
Building Restoration Fee  [Updated Nov. 2024]
Munroe Center for the Arts has instituted a Building Restoration Fee (BRF) required for all students taking classes at any school in the Munroe Center for the Arts. The fee is $50 per student, with a $100 cap for families of 2 or more students. Please remember that this fee is due only once an academic year, resetting with Fall registrations (ie. if you take a fall class, you do not pay the fee during winter, spring, or summer).
This fee demonstrates our collective dedication to revitalizing this much-beloved home for the arts in Lexington. If you have already paid this fee with another registration at one of the other Munroe Schools (i.e. Lexington School of Ballet or The Dance Inn), you do not need to pay an additional fee for The Munroe Center for the Arts registration. Students are responsible for tracking if they have paid the BRF already. Please contact our Executive Director with general questions, or Registrar for specific issues during registration related to the Building Restoration Fee.

*Services being offered by the Munroe Center for the Arts are not licensed by the Department of Education or any other state agency.
Studio Guidelines [Updated Aug. 2025]
Students attending any programs in the ceramics or printmaking studios are asked to review our studio-specific guidelines for each respective space in advance. These are typically reviewed and updated each fall; the most recent version will be provided alongside registration.
Drop-Off and Parking
** During our 2025-26 construction, please click HERE to review how our parking lot will be affected at this time - please do not idle, move outside the one-way route, or block the handicap spot's loading zone

For the safety of young children, we ask that they be dropped off directly to their teacher in the classroom and remain with the teacher until being picked up by a parent/guardian (or other authorized adult). If a child is allowed to leave after class on their own, parents/guardians must note this in the registration form OR provide a written note to the Registrar with enough notice for staff to safely make this accommodation.

Our parking lot has a one-way system, for easy drop-off at the back of the center. We request everyone's attention to the following parking procedures, to ensure safety:
  • If you are not in the building, do not park and leave your vehicle unattended. Our lot is for used by program participants, administrative staff, teachers, and artists currently present in the building.
  • Never stop your car in the active driveway to drop off someone; this is dangerous and will often back up traffic to the main road.
  • Please DO NOT PARK ALONG THE FENCE in the lot at the side of the building. It is too difficult to see children exiting from cars to cross our very busy lot. This creates an unsafe passing situation, especially at night

Behavior Guidelines
  • Be Kind - don’t hurt others purposely with words, hands, feet, objects, etc.
  • Be Respectful - Show consideration to other students, staff, the building, and workspace, and most importantly - to yourself! Make sure to follow any classroom rules, which may be unique to each teacher
  • Be Safe - youth should use the “buddy system” for bathroom visits, stay with your group/class, and not run inside the building or in the parking lot;  art tools and materials should judiciously be used as they are intended

Unacceptable Behavior
  • Refusing to follow classroom rules set by MCA and the teacher
  • Refusing to follow behavior guidelines (listed above)
  • Stealing or damaging property of the MCA or a staff/teacher/guests/other student
  • Not cooperating with staff or participating in activities
  • Disrupting the program/class
  • Participating in unsafe behavior (not using supplies safely, youth leaving without permission, etc.), especially in a way that endangers self or others
  • Physical violence, throwing objects, etc.
  • Bullying - MCA has a NO TOLERANCE policy for bullying, regardless of age!

Behavioral Procedure
When the above Behavior rules and policies of MCA are broken:
  1. Teachers will redirect student to a more positive behavior and demonstrate the appropriate behavior for the situation
  2. If the behavior continues, the student will be reminded of the behavior guidelines. Students will then be given an option to practice a behavior that follows guidelines, or sit out of the activity.
  3. If the student’s behavior persists and they continue to not meet expectations, especially if it affects the experience of other students or creates an unsafe situation, a parent/guardian will be notified. The MCA Programming Director will evaluate the behavior and work together with the parent/guardian to assess if the student needs to be taken out of the class.
  4. If the behavior continues to not meet MCA expectations and the student is unwilling to work with the teacher, MCA administration may dismiss the student from continual attendance. In this situation, MCA holds a 0% refund policy for students that are excused due to unacceptable and/or inappropriate behavior that affects others taking the class.

Refund & Credit Policy

Students and families are expected to take any class they successfully register for. This helps the Munroe Center for the Arts (MCA) effectively plan for teaching staff, materials, and other administrative logistics. As life is not always predictable, we understand the need to make changes. For this reason, we ask all students and parents/guardians to be familiar with the refund policy listed below [Effective 12/2022]

Any registration change requests (swapping classes, cancellations, etc.) must be submitted in writing to programming staff. Cancellation requests MUST be processed during regular business hours (ex. Cancellations for a Monday class or vacation camp must occur by 12PM the Friday before). A request to cancel registration should also specify for the refund to be returned via the original form of payment OR received as credits for future registrations.
(Altered refund policies for vacation camp & workshop programs are available on their respective webpages)

  • Full refund  - A full refund will be given for registration cancellations that occur more than two weeks prior to the start of the class/camp (excluding 5% registration processing fee).
  • Partial Refund - A 50% refund will be given for registration cancellations that occur on a business day (M-F) within two weeks to the start of the class/camp (excluding 5% registration processing fee).
  • No Refunds will be available on or after the day a class or camp week begins (including weekend before).

  • If the class is cancelled by MCA due to insufficient enrollment, students will be alerted at least 1 week before the start date. Registrants may choose to transfer into a different open class, if desired. If not, MCA will then issue a full refund (including registration process fee).
  • In the event of cancellation of the full class / camp week due to an emergency shutdown (due to national, state, or local regulations), where the Munroe Center for the Arts is unable to provide a substitute or online option, a prorated refund/credit of 50% of the remaining days will be provided.
  • ❄️ If a single class meeting is cancelled due to a snow day or other poor weather, a make-up class will be provided at the end of the semester. Every effort will be made to find a make-up date for classes missed due to weather cancellations, but in the event there are multiple days that are unable to be made up or if this happens during a camp week, registrants will be provided with a credit for future classes/camp.
  • In the event that a teacher calls out sick, every effort will be made to find a suitable substitute. In the event that this is not possible, a make-up class will be provided at the end of the semester. Every effort will be made to find a make-up date for classes missed due to missed days, but in the event there are multiple class days that are unable to be made up, registrants will be provided with a credit for future classes/camp.
