Fiber Fun - REGISTER
Grades K-2 Saturdays 10am - 11:30am April 25 - June 13 Instructor - Valerie Richkin $154 In this hands-on, mixed-media class, young artists will explore the magical world of fiber art using bright colors, surprising materials, and lots of imagination. Projects include “crazy weaving” with cardboard looms, pastels, and vibrant yarn, as well as playful, needle-free quilting. Each session encourages experimentation and joyful discovery, helping children build confidence while creating one-of-a-kind artworks in a warm, supportive, and super-fun environment. |

Famous Artists Past & Present REGISTER
Grades 3-5 Wednesdays 4:00-5:30pm April 8 - June 10 Instructor - Valerie Richkin $364 Travel through art history and beyond in this inspiring class that blends classic masterpieces with exciting contemporary art. Young artists will explore how artists from different times and cultures express ideas, stories, and styles—then try those approaches themselves. We’ll “paint with scissors” in the spirit of Matisse, scratch and layer colorful sgraffito landscapes inspired by folk artist Karla Gerard, and experiment with many more techniques along the way. This class encourages creative thinking, artistic confidence, and a deeper appreciation of the contributions of artists past and present. |

Drawing & Painting Foundations
This class will lead elementary students in how to build art-making confidence by developing foundational drawing and painting skills. Students are encouraged to find their creativity through the use of basic materials such as pencil, charcoal, ink, watercolor, acrylics, collage and more! Weekly lessons will cover elements of art and design such as color theory, principles of line use, value/shading, and composition through still life, landscape, and portraiture. Projects will allow students to build on and practice skills learned throughout the semester. All experience levels are welcome! Saturday Morning Comics - REGISTER
Grades 3-6 Saturdays 10am - 11:30am April 11 - May 30 Instructor - AJ Jerrett $230 Through fun drawing games and hands-on demonstrations, students will learn how to create their own unique characters and exciting stories for comics. They'll explore how facial expressions, body language, and sequential art help bring stories to life—improving their visual storytelling skills in a relaxed and creative environment at their own pace. Students will also discover different methods for making mini-comics, including one-page folded books and small multi-page stapled books. By the end, they'll have their very own comic creations featuring the characters and worlds they imagined! |

In Your Hands: Painting and Drawing Studio
Grades 6-12 If making art is something you love to do, join this long-running group where you will have the artistic support of an artist/teacher while you pursue your own ideas. We explore drawing and painting skills, color and composition, as well as new techniques and materials that may be introduced or invented to support your artistic journey. You can try oils, acrylics, pen and ink, gouache, watercolor, oil and dry pastels, markers, charcoal, and pencil, working on canvas or assorted papers. Whatever your focus is, be ready to explore! What are you curious about? Still life, collage, art journaling, cartooning, landscape, abstraction, portraits, fantasy, something else? Students can now join on a flexible schedule, picking just one, two, or all four dates from the Lexington Public Schools professional development days.

This class is run in collaboration with Lexington High School’s Munroe Art Mentors Club, headed by co-presidents Hannah Sul and Khadijah Khan. The program was developed to provide more opportunities for local students to connect, after Sul joined MCA's volunteer community and summer camp staff. The club encourages local teens to get involved in the arts, participate in the community, and develop leadership experiences as positive role models for younger student bases.

WORKSHOP
Spring Songbird Needle Felting - REGISTER Saturday March 14 10am-12pm Instructor: Laurie Engdahl $48 Needle-felting involves the transformation of using natural raw wool fibers to create decorative forms using specialized barbed or notched needles. In this relaxing, meditative workshop, students will learn the basics of needle-felting techniques to sculpt and decorate a small three-dimensional bluebird or other spring song bird. Students will each leave with one completed bird.

Mini-Sketchbook with Coptic and Leather Binding - REGISTER Sunday March 29 1-4pm Instructor: Stephanie Stigliano $65 Filling a big sketchbook can be intimidating. Make your own tiny treasure to bring everywhere and you will fill it quickly. Students will learn the beautiful Four Needle-Coptic Stitch which looks like a braid across the spine of the book. This strong and decorative binding requires no glue. We will attach sturdy and flexible leather covers to make a portable fit-in-the-hand sketchbook of 3” x 4.” Materials will be provided and pre-cut to size so you can focus on learning the challenging stitch step-by-step. |

Participants will dive into a rich mix of collage techniques—cutting, tearing, layering, arranging, and reimagining—while working with an inspiring collection of papers, images, and found ephemera. Through guided exploration, you’ll develop a stronger eye for harmony, value, and balance, and learn how to transform loose ideas into bold, personal works of art. Beginning Acrylic Painting - REGISTER
Wednesdays 10am - 12:30pm April 29-May 20 Instructor - Anya LaGault $218 This four-week course is designed for adults who are new to acrylic painting or would like to build a solid technical foundation. Students will learn essential skills including brush handling, color mixing, understanding value, basic composition, and effective layering techniques specific to acrylic paint. Each class will include demonstrations, guided practice, and structured exercises to help students develop proper painting habits and gain confidence working with the medium. Emphasis will be placed on fundamental principles that can be applied to any subject matter. By the end of the course, students will complete finished studies and leave with practical tools and a stronger understanding of acrylic techniques to continue developing independently. Gouache Painting - REGISTER
Thursdays 6:30-8:30pm May 7, 14, 21, 28 Instructor - Laurie Engdahl $218 Dip your toe into painting with gouache! Through this class students will learn about basic painting techniques, and experiment with gouache’s unique characteristics. As a water-based paint, gouache is a versatile medium and often used due to its resolubility and easy set-up and clean-up process. Perfect for a looser style, students can build up layers to develop color and viscosity while maintaining an opaque, matte finish. Ideal for beginners, with all experience levels welcome. |

Painting from Photos - REGISTER
Tuesdays 10am - 1pm April 7-June 9 Instructor - Emily Passman $493 Using a photo only as a reference and starting point Emily will encourage you to take some chances, and break through fears about your painting process. Through a series of guided exercises, she will assist you to find fresh ways of seeing an old photo, cropping information, inventing color and creating composition. Push to loosen up and follow new techniques to bring more expression and immediacy to your work. The class will cover composition, value control, dynamic brush work and color power. This course is for oil or acrylic painters, intermediate or advanced. Each class consists of a demo, an exercise and a critique. Emily’s classes are hardworking yet informal. |

Exploring Watercolors - REGISTER
Thursdays 10am - 1pm April 9 - June 11 Instructor - Lisa Lubarr $462 Explore the infinite dimensions of watercolor in this spirited dive into color and texture – which brings many fun and experimental techniques into the mix! With a very encouraging teacher, you will have the chance to try many FUN supplies and methods, where your individual voice as an artist will develop. Large range of styles are possible here, from classical realism in watercolor to very expressive forms! The class will focus on landscape painting from photographs, yet students are free to choose other subject matter in this adventurous exploration of texture, value relationships, dynamic and vibrant painting. Participants are encouraged to exchange ideas and foster connections. The studio group is formatted for self directed project work (please bring art materials).
