Figure Drawing Studio

Explore the art of monoprints, a “painterly” form of printmaking, with nature as inspiration. This class will introduce how to make unique prints by combining water-based inks and natural materials like leaves and petals. Through printmaking, students are encouraged to try creative experimentation to develop endless variations on unique designs. Students can produce a collection of original prints, suitable for framing, artbooks, or gift-giving. All experience levels are welcome, with materials provided.
The printmaking studio utilizes non-toxic materials; all students are asked to review the 2024-25 printmaking studio guidelines (provided upon registration) ahead of their first class in the space.

Come stimulate your art-making habits in an energizing supportive community of fellow art-makers in a new mixed media studio program. This program is formatted for self-directed project work and bringing personal materials. Participants in the program can experiment with their own sketching, painting, collage and other mark-making materials, while being inspired by optional art prompts in a supportive and encouraging environment. Participants will be encouraged to exchange ideas, energy and foster connections.

By exploring the joys and navigating the challenges of large-scale painting, students can embrace the freedom of filling space. Exercises will encourage experimentation to make big and bold artistic choices. Through three projects, students can expand their printmaking skills with line, shape, patterns, form, and more. Students will first build compositions through “state proofs”, then integrate layering color blocks. Finally, students will create a multicolor print with a single block - through the White Line printing style, developed through historic techniques from Japanese Edo woodcuts through 20th century Provincetown printers.
All experience levels are welcome. The printmaking studio utilizes non-toxic materials; all students are asked to review the 2024-25 printmaking studio guidelines (provided upon registration) ahead of their first class in the space.

As a constant presence, the self can be a fantastic subject to learn from, especially using foundational methods of drawing and linework. This class will introduce students to themselves - how to develop observation skills in order to capture individual expressions, anatomy, and personality on paper. Foundational skills will be enhanced through experimenting with various materials like pencil, charcoal, watercolor pen, and more. This class is ideal for visual artists with some experience, whether recent or returning to the craft after a break!
