Cristina Burwell, Executive Director - [email protected]
Cristina joined MCA in 2016. Her BFA in Industrial Design and MA in Ergonomics & Biomechanics led her to a former career designing products and environments for people with disabilities. After moving to Boston in 1996, she worked for Boston University as a Lecturer and GTE as a Human Factors Engineer. More recently, she chaired Lexington’s Council for the Arts and raised two children in East Lexington. Cristina is the official dogwalker of MCA ArtDog.

Heather Thomas, Business Manager - [email protected]
Heather joined MCA in 2025. Heather is a multi-faceted administrator, with experience ranging from finance and registration, to office management and public service. Her background includes an AB from Bowdoin College, a MSM specializing in Nonprofit Administration from Lesley University, and a MA from Andover Newton Theological School. As a lifelong student and crafter, she discovered MCA (and her creative happy place!) through printmaking workshops.

Rebecca Richards, Programming Director - [email protected]
Rebecca joined MCA as Programming Director in the fall of 2022. An artist and educator, she holds a B.S. from Emerson and a Master’s Degree from Boston University - where she also taught writing for ten years. She formerly served as executive director for several small and mid-sized nonprofit arts organizations, including Stagesource, Women in Film and Video, and the Belmont Gallery of Art. Rebecca is excited about creating programs that will enrich the lives of Munroe students of all ages.

Sarah Winters, MCA Registrar - [email protected]
Sarah is thrilled to be joining the Munroe community! She is an interdisciplinary artist and educator with a background in Expressive Arts Therapy from Lesley University and dedicated to fostering inclusive environments for all where creativity thrives. Sarah has led youth arts programs for 10+ years including exploration based visual arts and theater design for grades K-8. She has also been a costume designer for Watertown Children's Theatre since 2018. With a love for mixed media collage and watercolor, she enjoys creating and altering books in her own art making.

Alexa Steele, Office Administrator - [email protected]
Alexa is excited to be a part of the Munroe Center. She has a been a costume designer in Boston since 2015, focusing specifically on youth theaters. This work led her to become involved in youth arts programming as an administrator and educator. When she isn’t working she can be found sewing, charcoal sketching, and working with clay. Alexa is grateful to be able to work in an environment that allows her to share her passion for art with her community. |

Sue joined the MCA team in 2024. She is the mother of two musicians and has been a fan of the MCA for several years. She has a background working in communications, most recently as a freelancer, creating marketing and PR strategies for non profit organizations and independent businesses. She spent several years working in Youth Services at Cary Library, as well as in community relations and national promotion for the local public television station, GBH. Sue holds a BS in Mass Communication and Public Relations from Boston University.

Paul O’Connell, Maintenance Coordinator
Paul joined MCA in 2017. He has a background in municipal facilities maintenance and management, along with residential and commercial landscaping. As resident fix-it guy, Paul loves to flex his problem-solving skills by continuing the upkeep of this historic building.
