Summer Vacation Programs
June 25 - August 24, 2018
9 Week-long Programs, Ages 5-14
Let ArtSpan’s Summer Arts Program inspire your child’s imagination as we have fun creating and exploring in an interdisciplinary arts environment. Each week a new theme and classes unite ceramics, painting, drawing, music, drama, and games with a fully integrated age-appropriate curriculum. Kids make new friends, develop their creativity, and gain confidence through sharing and cooperation. Friday is the culmination of the week’s activities as parents and families are invited to our informal “share” performance at 2:30pm where students present all they’ve accomplished at ArtSpan that week. Our staff consists of teachers trained in their specific area of the arts, and counselors are selected for their artistic talents as well as their experience working with kids. Many are previous students! All are passionate about the arts.
Please note our summer program is not licensed by the Department of Education or any state agency.
2018 Summer Weeks:
All Summer Programs contain four rotations of classes that are 1 hour and 15 minutes each:
Visual Art, Ceramics, and Theater with an additional rotation in either Dance, Sport/Games or LARP (Live Action Role Play) to round out the fine arts curriculum with a physical activity.
WEEK 1: June 25-29
Who am I? Who is my family? Where did we come from? Using our own biographical histories as source material,
we will create art that honors our own individual senses of place and origin.
WEEK 2: July 2-6 (July 4 off)
Myths, Legends, and Lore!
Let the tales of old lead us into an enchanting realm of magic, heroes, and high adventure. Experiment with storytelling,
enact your hero's triumphs, and create art inspired by the tried-and-true language of myths, legends, and lore!
WEEK 3: July 9-13
Dia de los Metros (Day of the Dead)!
Join us for an week of mysterious and evocative art inspired by this indigenous Mexican tradition.
WEEK 4: July 16-20
The natural world holds much beauty and inspiration. Through hands-on examination and nature walks,
we will grow curious about the natural world and source unexpected materials for art-making.
WEEK 5: July 23-27
Full STEAM Ahead!
Science, technology, engineering, arts, and math... Join us for an innovative foray into creating, enacting, and
exploring across disciplines!
WEEK 6: July 30- August 3
Small works, smaller worlds... There is an incredible world just out of sight that can inspire our art and creativity!
This week, we will examine these hidden, microscopic worlds, become inspired by what we find, and
create miniature works of art.
WEEK 7: August 6-10
Back by popular demand, we will explore the world of wizardry with hybrid animals, magic spells, then revisit the world
of our favorite wizards.
WEEK 8: August 13-17
Aboriginal Art & Culture!
Indigenous Australian dot painting is a symbolic and communicative language that describes the lives, rituals, and
customs of the aboriginal people. This week, we will experiment with this symbolic language and many other customs that
make this part of the world so unique.
WEEK 9: August 20-24
C a r n i v a l !
In a carnivalesque environment, we will celebrate the close of summer with this culminating arts festival.

The fiscal year starts with September programming and Building fees are from September to September each year. This fee demonstrates our collective dedication to revitalizing this much-beloved home for the arts in Lexington. If you have already paid your Restoration Fee with another registration for one of the other Munroe Schools (i.e. Lexington School of Ballet or The Dance Inn), you do not need to pay an additional fee for ArtSpan registration.
