Summer Songwriting
Grades 6th - 12th (as of 2025-26 school yr)
Monday - Friday, 4 PM - 5:30 PM
July 14th - July 25th OR July 28th - August 8th (10 days)
$260

This class will teach students about the fundamentals of songwriting over two weeks to create a final original song. Topics include lyric writing, melody writing, and chord progressions. Students will use their favorite musicians and lesson topics as a guide to write songs of their own. This class is meant to be fun and will let students learn to express themselves through music. No music experience is required! On the last day, students will have a brief “showcase” to perform their final songs (July 25th for first block, or August 8th for second block).

Maya Salafia is an indie-pop singer-songwriter from Lexington, Massachusetts. Maya has been writing, recording and performing original music since she was nine years old. She released her first EP of originals as a middle school student, has won and placed in local, regional and international competitions, and regularly appears at popular venues throughout Boston and New England. Last year, Maya wrote the song for LexSeeHer’s dedication and unveiling event for Lexington’s “Something Is Being Done” monument, created by Meredith Bergmann. She continues to be a voice for women making a difference in society. Her recently released album “Girl Like Her” can be found on Spotify and all streaming platforms. She is currently a sophomore at Berklee College of Music, double majoring in Songwriting and Music Business.
