A Fine Line - Introductory Drawing
Adults
Thursdays, 10 AM - 12 PM
January 11 - March 14 (no class 2/22)
Instructor - Lea Baecksteiner
$359
Drawing is considered to be the foundation of all artistic practice, with line work essential to effectively capturing what we see in front of us. This class will lead students through the use of space and the visual language of the line, assisting in hand-eye coordination by drawing from observation and still-lifes. This extends to negotiating space/composition, perception of values, and forming a strong base for lighting/shading and contouring. By using just basic drawing techniques like cross-hatching, students will learn to create depth and build up foundational skills throughout the semester.

Collagraph Printmaking
Adults
Thursdays, 4 PM - 6 PM
January 11 - March 14 (no class 2/22)
Instructor - Stephanie Stigliano
$340 + $60 materials fee
Join us in the printmaking studio to combine collage and paint techniques through collagraph printing! This form of printmaking allows artists to experiment with materials to build unique marking and tonal effects. Students will begin by creating their own plates, then combining other materials - try lace, leaves, cards, yarn and other fabrics to create a textured relief. Finished prints can be figurative or abstract, blending transparency or opaque shapes. Demonstrations and example images provided will introduce techniques and provide inspiration.
This class allows experimentation with carborundum collagraph and dry-point, with non-toxic and environmentally-friendly studio materials, and printed on the American French Tool Press. All experience levels welcome! We ask all students to review the studio use guidelines ahead of their first class in the printmaking studio.
