Learn the fundamental skills for handmade ceramics, whether functional or sculptural/decorative, through regular demonstrations. The pottery wheel will be the focus, with students creating complex, consistent forms, perfect for vessels like bowls, mugs and vases. With a group environment, students can be inspired with new techniques/approaches and inject their own personal style into each piece. New students can learn and practice foundations like trimming and glazing from start to finish, while returning students can continue to build their experience through exploration.

This class will cover the basics of hand building: pinch, slab and coil, as well as different surface techniques. Students will analyze the ways one can use, alter and combine these elements to push creative possibilities, use one’s imagination, and one’s life, and be inspired by ceramics of different artists and cultures. Throughout the class, images of other pieces will be shown, both in-person and digitally, for inspiration. Students can spend time sharing works in-progress, discussing ideas and aesthetics, and exploring technical challenges. Expanded class demonstrations, one-on-one assistance, and group conversations with student input will all be an important part of the process.

All Ages Creature Creation
Intergenerational

This intergenerational class will give children, teens, and adults alike the chance to work individually or collaboratively with ceramics - perfect for a family to be creative together! Participants can create imaginative creatures of clay, having fun while learning fundamentals of the ceramics and studio responsibilities. Handbuilding in ceramics allows students to easily experiment with different clay bodies, glazes, and ceramic tools.
This class is open to all ages (grades 1+), but is not a drop-off program for students grade 5 and under (requiring an Adult Caregiver to register in addition).
